What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 – Foundation Enhancements

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Foundation Enhancements will be the final entry of my ‘What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010’ series.

Below are some of the awesome changes:

Emailing

·         Email Functionality

With the new e-mail functionality in Microsoft Dynamics GP you can embed documents into the body of an email or send as an attachment!

Home Page

·         View Reminders as Cues

You can choose to view pre-defined reminders as text or cues on your home page.  A cue is an icon that increases or decreases in height to indicate the number of records in a particular reminder category.

·         View Reporting Services Metrics!

·         Create your own metrics on your home page!

Lookups

·         Set a default view for many lookup windows!

Define and save a default lookup view for your master records.  This is available for Item, Account, Employee, Customer, Vendor, and Salesperson lookups!

Microsoft Dynamics Online Connect

Connect displays a series of slides that allow you to perform self-help support, get information and perform training from the Microsoft Dynamics GP home page!

Navigation Pane

Now you have control over which series buttons and associated lists for modules display for users!

Right-click menu enabled

You can right-click in a text or numeric field to see a shortcut menu which contains options from the Edit menu!

Security

·         Display security roles and tasks

Restrict roles and tasks assigned to a user instead of viewing all tasks, roles, and items!

·         Copy user security settings

Save time and improve accuracy by copying one user’s security settings to another!

·         Automatically log on to GP and a company

Users now have the option to log on to GP and a specific company automatically!

Word Templates

Predefined Word templates for several document types based on the standard reports in GP.  Create your own or modify an existing template, and then assign the template to a company!

What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 - Financial Enhancements

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

With the release of Dynamics GP 2010 a few long-awaited features arrive.  It’s obvious that Microsoft took the time to listen to customers’ requests for features with their latest GP version.  I’ve noted a few of my favorite Financial enhancement below:

Exclude inactive records from lookup menus!

No more searching through your inactive customers, vendors, inventory items, and GL accounts!

Clear recurring GL batch amounts!

You can now clear the distribution amounts for all transactions on recurring batches after you post a batch.

Combine multiple budgets into a single master budget!

Create separate departmental budgets and easily combine into one.

Enter negative Cash Receipts in Accounts Receivable!

You can enter a negative cash receipt for the purpose of decreasing a deposit.

Select multiple ranges when building a check batch!

Have you planned for your upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 yet to ensure you benefit from all of these enhancements?

Microsoft Dynamics GP keeps up with $17.6 billion Jobs Bill

Monday, April 5th, 2010

If you are thinking of hiring; now is the time.  There are two new tax benefits available to employers hiring workers who were previously unemployed or only working part time.  This is part of the new $17.6 billion Job Bill, or officially known as the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act which was signed by the President in mid-March.

What this means for you:

·         Tax Benefit 1:  For every “Qualified” employee (defined as Unemployed for the previous 60 days or worked less than 40 hours in the previous 60 days) Employers will not have to pay FICA tax on these employees from 2/3/10 – 12/31/10.

·         Tax Benefit 2:  For each worker retained for at least a year, businesses may claim an additional general business tax credit, up to $1,000 per worker, when they file their 2011 income tax returns

In Dynamics GP Payroll, it will work similar to the following (details to be worked out):

1.    A “Qualified” employee is someone that has been unemployed for the previous 60 days or worked less than 40 hours per week in the previous 60 days.  These employees will be flagged in Employee Maintenance in a new field.

2.    A new 941 report will have at least 2 new fields:  1. Number of employees in the date range that are qualified, and FICA amount the employer can reduce.

3.    Before the Q2 941 report is run, the Dynamics GP code change will need to be made and the employees flagged.

Collaboration is Power - New England Microsoft Dynamics GP User Group 2/23/10!

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Someone once described TEAM as Together Everyone Achieves More.

This is a concept that will be tested and, most likely embraced, by the group of professionals coming together for the first ever NE Dynamics GP User Group being held at ecomaine on 2/23. In this time of cost cutting, do-more-with-less, everyone should consider collaboration as a way to learn, grow, and create efficiencies that traditionally were accomplished through expensive training programs and consulting engagements.

Great minds are coming together for the Dynamics GP User Group to talk about the new Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 (Dynamics GP V11), Tips and Tricks, Roundtable discussion, and to create an agenda for future meetings that will result in achievements not found in traditional learning. Welcome to the new world of collaboration where we connect and work with others and benefit from the team approach!

Dynamics GP Resources

Monday, February 9th, 2009

In our busy lives it is so easy to try to ‘tough it out’ on our own and sometimes spend too much wasted time spinning our wheels. For me, this can be a source of frustration. As I consider this, I wonder if our customers are feeling similar things. Perhaps something has been missed along the way. I wanted to share with you some of the different resources you benefit from being a customer of Gilchrist Scott, Ltd. and Microsoft Dynamics. (more…)
