Dynamics GP: Keeping Your CPA Happy

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I was surfing the Internet and looking for some information and I came across an excerpt of Microsoft Dynamics GP for Dummies and one of the sections was entitled “Keeping Your CPA Happy“. I included the link to the excerpt above and I encourage you to check it out. It reinforces a lot of what we talk about with prospective customers. Many of them are using accounting packages that do not have things like audit trails - or they can be turned off - thus allowing records and transactions to be deleted with no record of who or when. Potentially worse, orphan records can be left behind, waiting to cause you (or your bookkeeper or your CPA) major heartburn down the road. Why gamble with that? Dynamics GP also offers advanced tracking capability available in the Audit Trails module. For example, you are able to view before and after versions of records to see exactly what was changed, who changed it and when - you get to decide what to track.

Accounting Software Selection Priorities

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

A good number of the companies we interact with are looking to replace the accounting software they have outgrown. More often than not, it is QuickBooks or some other entry level software package. Sometimes the most challenging thing for companies to get past is the price tag. This is unfortunate because while price obviously has to be a factor, it should not be the leading selection criteria. Take this study conducted back in 2005 by Deloitte & Touche LLP, referred to here and brought to my attention by my colleague Jason Carter: 1500 executives were asked to rank 10 factors in order of importance to them in selecting accounting software. Of these executives, there were 1st time buyers and then those who had purchased 2 or more times. (more…)

Getting the Most Out of Dynamics GP?

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

If you are a user of Dynamics GP, when is the last time you went out to CustomerSource? Have you taken advantage of any of the online training? What about new releases - what version of the software are you on? The current version is 10 and support for version 8 is running out soon! If you are on the Business Ready Licensing (BRL) model, are there modules you already own that you have not implemented? If you are not on BRL, have you looked at the offer to migrate? What about conferences? Convergence? GPUG (GP Users Group)? (more…)

Move from MAS 90/200 to Microsoft Dynamics GP: Why Now May Be The Time

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Is your company currently using MAS90 or MAS200? How’s it going? Does it take too many hours and too much effort to get to the information you need? Do you find yourself using Microsoft Excel alot to display or calculate the information you need in a way that makes sense for you? Do you have other applications that do not tie into your main system? So, this means you are double and perhaps triple keying the same data? Does the system feel stable, easily updates, runs fast and never crashes? What if you grow - is this software going to keep up?

But this is a bad time to be investing in a new system, right? Think again.
